Many companies have an employee appreciation day to show the people in their company that they care about the efforts that they are making. Unfortunately, many of the actions that they take to show their appreciation do not seem genuine and leave their employees still feeling quite unappreciated. In order to decrease employee turnover rate, it’s important to make sure that they feel appreciated and noticed at their company, so they do not feel like they need to find a position elsewhere. Here are some ideas to make your employees feel like they are important to your company.
Ask Them What They Want
If you have no idea what to do for your employees, just ask and provide them with a chance to give suggestions. You may be surprised when it comes to how many ideas they have for not only feeling appreciated but also for the company as a whole. You want them to feel like they are being listened to.
Trophies
While you may think the idea of giving a trophy to your prized employees is kind of cheesy, it doesn’t have to be. There are many different types of trophies and some of them can be quite entertaining. Having a tangible object to look at during a bad idea that was given to them by someone higher up in the company can serve as a good reminder that they are an important part of your team.
Celebrate Birthdays
It’s important to remember that some of your employees might not want their birthday celebrated, and that is absolutely fine. For these employees, a private reminder like a card with a small gift card can go a long way when it comes to recognizing them as an individual. For employees that don’t care about everyone knowing about another year passing, consider getting a cake for everyone in the office and maybe a day off of their choosing. While many offices celebrate birthdays, the responsibility is usually left to their peers to do all of the planning.
Make The Rewards Unique
It’s important to understand that everyone in your office is an individual and they will all have their own preferences to keep in mind. Celebrating this diversity is important when it comes to showing how much you appreciate everything that they do for your company. In many cases, a blanket award can be useful, but when someone has excelled personally it’s important to recognize them individually with something that caters to their particular interests.
Everyone Likes Snacks
Food is always a favorite and it doesn’t have to be a special occasion for you to throw a pizza party or provide snacks like candy or doughnuts. If you appreciate your staff, show them that with yummy foods that everyone can enjoy. If there are people in your office with special dietary needs, it’s important to keep this in mind and provide them with snacks that they can enjoy as well.
